What happens to your details

Short version: if you send me your details, I use them to reply to you about your website and for nothing else. I do not sell them, share them for marketing, or add you to a newsletter.

What I collect

Only what you type into the enquiry form or send me by phone, text or email: usually your name, business name, phone, email, website and a description of what you do.

Where it is kept

Form messages are stored by Netlify, which hosts this site, and copied to my email. Phone and text messages stay on my phone. If you become a client, I keep what I need to build and look after your site.

If I emailed you first

I sometimes email businesses whose address is published on their website or business listing, about their website. Every email says who I am and how to opt out. Reply "no thanks" or "unsubscribe" and you will not hear from me again.

The chat assistant

The Ask Arch chat on this site is an AI assistant. What you type in it, and the chat so far, is sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model, to write each reply. Under Anthropic's commercial terms it may not use it to train its models. I do not store your chat, and the AI is told not to ask for anything sensitive, so please do not type passwords, card numbers or health details. If the AI service is unavailable, the chat falls back to fixed answers that run in your browser.

If you ask the assistant to have me contact you, it sends me your name, the phone number or email you gave, what you need, and a copy of that chat. That is stored by Netlify and copied to my email, and used only to get back to you.

The AI demos and forms

The demos on the AI Systems pages (the receptionist call, the chat assistant, the playground, the calculator and the audit questions) use fictional businesses. The calculator, playground and audit questions run in your browser. The receptionist call and the chat assistant demo use live AI: what you type or say in them is sent to Anthropic (the maker of the Claude AI model) to write the replies, and is not stored by me or sent to me. If the live AI is unavailable they fall back to scripted answers in your browser. If you press the microphone button, your browser's own speech recognition turns your voice into text. In Google Chrome that audio is sent to Google, and in Microsoft Edge to Microsoft, to do this, under their privacy terms. If you would rather not, just type. If you tick "read the replies out loud", the assistant's reply text, which can include a first name or suburb you mentioned, is sent to ElevenLabs, my voice provider, to create the audio. What you say into the microphone is not sent to ElevenLabs. The separate "browser's built-in voice" option stays on your device.

If you send the AI enquiry form or the audit form, I receive what you typed, your audit answers and score, and the page you sent it from. That is stored by Netlify and copied to my email, and used only to reply to you.

Ambient sound

The optional water sound on this site is generated in your browser. It is off until you turn it on, and nothing about it is recorded or sent anywhere.

If I set up AI tools for your business

For clients, AI receptionist, chat and follow-up tools are set up on third party platforms, in your name where possible, so your customers' information belongs to you. The AI always tells people it is an AI. Calls are only recorded if you ask for that, and callers are told at the start. Follow-up messages only go to people who contacted you, and marketing messages always include a way to opt out.
